Door & Frame Design Automation

  • Considered to be my proudest achievement & favoriate project of all time
  • CAD-les is a web-based design automation solution that serves the industry of security doors & frames.
  • CAD-les is a sheet metal automation tool for generating DXF cut-list & eliminating manual modifications for 95% of the work load.
  • CAD-les is Cloud-based. Supporting offshore & remote operations.
  • CAD-les operates as a stand-alone package, without requiring any other applications (AutoCAD / ZWCAD)
  • Shipped with (28) frame profiles.
  • Built with coordinates system allowing addition of any custom profile.

  • Unique approach for assigning hardware locations on profile nodes.

  • Adjustable K-factor for any mateiral type and thickness

  • Shipped with multiple door constructions (seamless / interlocking).

  • Incorporates more than (14) unique hardware categories
  1. Vision Panels (normal / double glazed) / Louvers
  2. Hinges (normal / Concealed / Pivot / Double Acting / Floor )
  3. Anchor mounting (Single Layer / Double / Tripper/ Zig-zag )
  4. Exit Devices (Active / In-activ)
  5. Locks (Normal / Function-based )
  6. Door Closers
  7. Rubber Silencor
  8. Flush Bolt
  9. Door Bottom Sweep
  10. Door Contact
  11. Door Stop
  12. EPT
  13. Push/Pull Plates
  14. Earthing Nut
  15. View Hole
  • Unique approach for uploading hardware cutouts as DXF drawings. With interactive interface for measuring & validating cutouts library.

  • Full editing interface for all drawings information

  • Generation time per drawing ~ 1.5 second (headbar/ sill, jambs & door leafs)

  • Automatic addition of micro-joints for higher sheet thickness. (Added to prevent buckling & distortion of cutout during bending)

  • Supports welded & knockdown frame constructions

  • Supports generation of door channels.

The overall R&D process for this application spanned more than 2-years as a side hobby. Official implementation time took 3 months with continuous updates beyond the handover date.

This is not the first implementation in this field and it won't be. However, the vision for this application was and has always been to cover all gaps and shortcomings from existing solutions.

One of the most noteable drawbacks in the majority of commercial products is the fact that, any modifications or additions to the system, would need to be implemented by the implementer or at least by someone with a programming background.
CAD-les went on to solve this issue by providing a system of procedures that allow the user to add completely new profiles.

Another point which has been on my mind from day one. Is the process of adding hardware cutouts. Not only that but also providing a straight forward mechanism for the users to view these cutouts on demand. This is where the use of my custom-made visual system came to into use.

Another aspect where CAD-les shines over other custom-made solutions is the fact that it runs as a stand-alone application. Without being tied to any other subscribtion-based CAD solutions for the sole purpose of generating the drawings.

As it stands right now, CAD-les is used for generation of DXF Cut-list...Would I continue with other design aspects within the engineering cycle like shop-drawing or manufacturing drawings? Possibly. For now, I'm mostly focused on covering non-standard products that comprise 5% of the total load.
